Seminar educates students on US immigration laws

City Express, Hyderabad (Wednesday, November 12, 2003)

Thought I cannot show immediate bank balance, I have my uncle in the US to financially support my studies. But how can I convince the visa officials? What is 'argument query' status of the visa application?

These were some of the questions posed by students at the first day of the US immigration seminars being jointly organized by the Centre for Telecom Management and Studies (CTMS) and the US visa processing agency VisaPro at the Institute of Engineers, Khairatabad, today.

US-based immigration attorney Douglas Osterloh explained to students about alternative ways to follow to avoid cancellation of the application. There are 23 categories in non-immigrant visa. Students can switch over from F1 to other categories like M1, J1 and H2B.

"There is enough possibility to get visa in H2B category since it never gets filled up. But students have to apply for extension of change of category since the visa permission is granted only for six months," he said.

VisaPro head Venkat Ramineni said the agency would file individual cases against the cancellation of each application by the immigration authority. The only office in India is located in the city. More details can be had on phone No: 23546104

The seminar will continue tomorrow. "Doing Business in the US - How Recent Changes to the US Immigration Laws Affect Your Business" is the topic.
